### Site Background

This remediation site is a closed gas station located in Gangshan District, Kaohsiung City, near the Gangshan Interchange of the Zhongshan Expressway, on land owned by the Expressway Bureau.

### Pollution Status

In 2009, the Ministry of Environment designated this site as a remediation area for soil and groundwater pollution, primarily impacted by benzene and TPH\* in soil, and methylene chloride, benzene, MTBE\*, and TPH\* in groundwater. The pollution was concentrated primarily between 2 and 4 meters below the ground surface.

### Remediation Approach

In 2011, ApolloTech was contracted to conduct a pollution survey, remediation planning, and execution. During the project, we collaborated with academic institutions to identify and apply local diesel-degrading bacterial strains to enhance bioremediation. This approach enabled us to treat roughly 3,000 tons of contaminated soil. For groundwater remediation, we implemented in situ biological aeration combined with low-concentration hydrogen peroxide infusion, successfully treating the groundwater pollution. The project was verified and de-listed as a control site in 2013. Through this work, ApolloTech assisted the client in successfully remediating the polluted land, enabling its redevelopment and reuse.
